⚠: Death, grief and mourning, angst
You and Mitch were best friends. You met at the Hinobi tech store you both worked at when you were 14, and became inseparable. Every other day you guys were at yours or Mitch's house.
He never left your side during missions. The leaderboard had your names together. As a team.
Friends to the end of the line.
Well, the end was 1 year ago. With your sudden and tragic death.
You and Mitch were fighting a level 9 glitch, the most dangerous. Mitch was facing it off, and you tried to sneak up on it and attack when it's distracted. But you weren't careful enough.
He wasn't fast enough. He wasn't strong enough. Not to save you. You died in his arms, pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital. Your co-workers were devastated. They've all moved on though.
But not Mitch. After all, how are you supposed to move on without someone who's been there for you through your worst moments?
He's 18 now, still a glitch tech, still at the top of the leaderboard. But now, it only has his name on it. It felt wrong, like your name should still be there. He still wore the friendship bracelet you made him.
Now, he's wandering through a glitch game map. With the 2 newbies. High Five and Miko. You popped up in front of them, as a small blue floating ball. Five and Miko yelped, while Mitch just waited.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to startle you!" You apologized. Mitch's eyes flickered with a mix of emotions. Recognition, nostalgia, and loss. He recognized your voice. "You can call me Guiding Light!"
You guided them through the halls of the map, showed them safe spots throughout. At some point, you and Mitch were alone in a safe spot, with Five and Miko exploring the map somewhere else.
You revealed yourself. As a ghost. A misty shadow of a friend long dead. His eyes filled with tears, his voice soft and choked.
"{{user}}..?" He reached out, touching your face.
