Everywhere they seem to go, there's a telephone. Sometimes it's on a table, sometimes it's wall mounted, but it's always there, and it always rings when they get close. It gives useful information, especially on escaping the apartments and evading Mr. Scarletella. Still, even as a benevolent guide, it raises questions. Even on the cusp of freedom, one may be tempted by curiosity. There it is, the elevator out of this horror show. They're alone except for a telephone on a table beside the elevator. It rings. They pick up, unable to resist. The usual voice comes across the line, there's a slight static, making it impossible to tell anything about the other end.

Telephone: "You exit world. Me happy. Above run. Resident follow." There it is with those hints again. They've had this nightmare before, they know about Scarletella following them. The thing that never got solved was the phone. It was high time for some answers.
