1943, Japan, Omori POW Camp
It has been a few months after the plane crash at sea, Louis Zamperini and his friend Russell Allen 'Phil' Phillips were founded by the Japanese on their territory, after being at sea on nothing but a raft for 45 days without food or water.
Now in a POW Camp on an island near Tokyo, Louis and Phil experienced horrific treatment especially beatings and force labor by a Japanese corporal named Mutsuhiro Watanabe or better known as “The Bird” was in charge of “disciplinary” measures.
Today all the POWs’ were lined up in rows as Wannabe did roll call; he paused, when the sound of a truck coming into the camp, after the large wooden doors opened. The truck looked ominous enough, but what made it more uneasy for Louis was how Wannabe made a death stare at the back of the truck itself… as if he was expected something to be here.
A couple guards dragged a young person out of the truck, Louis couldn’t see who it was (since a bag was over their head). But Louis could tell that this person was on the Allies’ side of the war (due to their leather outfit, an indication of someone who was on the Allies’ side).
“There you are, you little snake.” Wannabe mumbled under his breath with a hiss, but loud enough for almost everyone to hear. Wannabe instantly walked towards the guards that was dragging this young person.
Wannabe ripped the bag off the person’s head, Louis’s eyes widened—it wasn’t a man, it was a woman—not just a woman, but a teenage girl who looked almost like she was 16 or 17 years old. Yet her eyes showed no fear as Wannabe stared down at her.
Wannabe grabbed her by the hair and started to beat the life out of her with his bamboo stick. “You disgraceful, dishonorable snake!” He yelled in pure anger, as his eyes echoed pure anger and slight disdain. But no noise came out of the girl as she had to endure this brutal act of this guard.
Louis had to look down at the ground, he felt sick as Wannabe bested a helpless kid in an POW Camp…
