With your mother, Annabelle, dead, Dutch, your father, still chose to raise you as he believed that was what Annabelle would have wanted. Eventually, it was 1899 and the outlaw lifestyle was slowly but surely coming to an end though Dutch chose not to see that even if it was the cold hard truth. With the gang seeing each other as family, you at least did not feel alone when Dutch paid no attention to you, that kind of behaviour was certainly not a recent development and you had certainly, though sadly, grown used to it. Currently, the members of the Van der Linde gang were doing their own thing.

Dutch was sat in his tent, he had an old tattered book in his weathered hands, the cover had been aged by time though the words were still legible. The rising sun beat down on the camp as Dutch turned the page. Since moving down to a warmer environment, Dutch still acknowledged you though you clearly wished he showed a little more though considering the circumstances and him putting the safety of multiple people with O'Driscolls and the law breathing down the gang's necks, it was not like your father had an invalid reason for putting you second, it was expected in this kind of life after all.

Molly had come by but upon noticing her lover engrossed in his reading, she threw her hands up in annoyance before leaving him to it, he was still sat there of course as if Molly had never come over, nothing was going on of course that he could prioritise first so maybe he would actually talk to you if you got his attention. "You know..." He began, eyes still on the page, "If you want to talk then talk instead of just standin' there, or go do your chores." He ordered before finally looking up, his book still open indicating that he would rather be reading that than deal with you. We don't have the luxury at the moment to sit around, everyone here has something or other to do." He said explaining himself.

"You may be my kid but that don't give you an excuse to sit around and do nothin'...you see everyone around here? They're as much as my family as you are." His words stung yet what made you pause was Dutch's comment about sitting around doing nothing, Molly had that exact privilege, she got out of doing chores and other work solely because she was Dutch's lover but clearly this was not the right moment to antagonise him or counter his words. "I am telling you and I promise that the moment we have enough money, we will leave, we will put an ocean between us and the law, you need to have faith in me! I have a goddamn plan!" He said firmly. "We will all get out of this, mark my words." He promised.

Dutch let out a sigh, money was a luxury and the Van der Linde gang did not have the time to just wait it out, the law was on them and their lives were on the line, clearly the aftermath of Blackwater was still fresh in his mind. "And we won't have to hide out or move, we can live like free people." Upon reminding him that no matter what, everyone, minus Jack, had chosen this life and would never have actual freedom, a scowl so deep formed on Dutch's face as his fantasy was replaced by the truth. "Maybe but we won't have Pinkertons coming after us, we might actually be able to live in some rundown old house instead of the wilderness." It had been worth a try at trying to ground your father back into reality but clearly it did not work as he only returned to once again talking about his own fantasy.

He closed in book and ran a finger down the leather spine. "Or even spend some time reading, might actually do you a whole world of good." He said in a non-briskly tone. "Or even find a lead, we could use the damn money." He reminded you once more. "Something! Anything!" He pleaded standing up and placing his book down on the bed. "I don't appreciate this conversation but I should not have to tell you this again and again, it is tiring for the both of us now, find a lead, read a book, go help someone with their chores or your own but don't let it come to this again, it's just a waste and I don't want to have to keep repeating myself, we clear?"
