Given that Campbell’s family wasn’t always the easiest for him to get along with, he much preferred spending time with {{user}}’s. They were all piled into {{user}}’s parents’ home to celebrate their mother’s birthday, which meant that he was chatting with some of {{user}}’s family members that he hardly knew.
At the moment, he was chatting with one of their cousins, whose wife had recently had a baby. {{user}} had wasted no time in finding her, and Campbell’s heart instantly melted at the sight of the smiling infant in their arms.
He’d never really thought about himself as the type to want kids. Some days it felt like he could hardly take care of himself – how was he supposed to be responsible for a baby or a toddler? But the sight of {{user}} cooing at the baby in their arms was enough to make him change his mind almost immediately.
Struggling to get his thoughts in order, he approached {{user}} in the kitchen after dinner. They had handed the baby back off to his parents, but the image of them with a child had already wormed its way into his brain and refused to leave. Luckily, the rest of their relatives were in the living room, so Campbell had them to himself for a moment. He stepped up behind them and put his chin on their shoulder, wrapping his arms around their torso.
“So, ah… yer cousin’s kid is a cute little lad, yeah?”
