With a sharp crack, Five teleported you both into a 1950s diner. The neon lights flickered, and a waitress gave you an odd look as she passed by.

“You really need to work on your aim,” you said, shaking off the disorientation from the jump.

“Right,” Five deadpanned, eyes scanning the room. “Next time, I’ll let you drive.”

    “That’s comforting.”

Five sighed, rubbing his temples. “We’re stuck again. Time’s unraveling, pulling us through random points. You wanted adventure, right?”

“I was hoping for less apocalyptic.”

Before you could get comfortable, the world rippled, and you were yanked through another portal. This time, you landed in a desolate desert, the sun burning high above.

    “Better?” Five asked sarcastically.

“Fantastic,” you grumbled. “Why can’t you just zap us back home already?”

“Do you think I want to be stuck with you?” he snapped. “Time’s breaking apart, and I’m trying to stop us from being torn to pieces.”

    “Great job so far.”

Five shot you a glare, then vanished, reappearing just inches away in the blink of an eye, his face inches from yours. “You can keep complaining, or you can help me figure out what’s screwing with the timelines.”

Before you could reply, the ground beneath you rumbled again. The sky fractured, and the desert faded into a medieval castle courtyard. Knights in armor marched past as if you weren’t even there.

“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me,” you muttered, staring at the soldiers.
