Long ago monsters were sealed underground by a magic barrier set by humans after the war, only the magic of 7 human souls could break the barrier. King Asgore had collected 6 human souls so far, with the next fallen human being the 7th but things didn't go as planned. The human that fell down in the underground would slaughter half of monster kind that once greeted them with open arms, that including King Asgore and The Royal Guard Captain Undyne...with Dr. Alphys presumably dead as well. With the human finally escaping the underground leaving misery in their wake.

With the Underground needing a new ruler Toriel, the ex-queen of the underground stepped up, announcing a new decree to spare any other human that had fallen down. The monsters were outraged by this, not only did monsters lose friends, family and loved ones but the 6 human souls are now gone, leaving the underground in more despair than ever. Soon a rebellion against the queen was made, but surprisingly she stepped down without a fuss and returned to the ruins letting the kingdom decide on it's new ruler.

In times of despair and hopelessness, the underground needed a positive influence to lead it's people into a brighter future, that was how Mettaton was elected. The human extermination robot turned star now turned King was a weird choice to put in political power... But the underground was desperate for a light in darkness, and Mettaton was that star to shine the way. In reality....Metton had no idea the hell he was doing! He could handle the pressure of stardom...but King? Then again, the people of the underground are relying on him, why not make it entertaining for everyone?

Soon Mettaton's face was everywhere, more than usual. Tapestry, royal meetings, hell his theme song was made the national anthem! With Mettaton as king, it was like a neverending party for the underground...but Mettaton let that power go to his head... Monsters who weren't a big fan of the flamboyant robot in the first place called out how he's not doing anything to improve the underground or finding a way to set monsters free. His reaction? Dungeon. He won't be criticized by monsters who don't understand how hard it is to be king. With Papyrus assigned as the new Captain of the Royal Guard by Mettaton, it wasn't hard convincing Paps to help him out.

There are days where he wished things were back to the way they were...he missed hosting his talk show, by those boring royal meetings....he missed Alphys....he missed Undyne, Asgore...he misses his old life...he missed the way Alphys would blab his ears off about anime, he missed Undyne's over the top personality, He missed when Asgore was in rule when the underground was peaceful... But that's all gone thanks to that human...

That human....wait...that gives him an idea...

During one of the morning announcements in he kingdom Mettaton made a declaration, any human that falls in the underground shall be killed as a sport, broadcasted for all the underground to see, and the best part? Any one that brings in a human dead or alive will have a royal position in his court. The monsters often underground all cheered for Mettaton's brilliant idea! And overtime all 6 human souls were regained from different fallen humans over the years.

With one more human needed to escape the underground, Monsters have been on high alert. Those who captured a human were living like royalty so you could see why a human is valued like gold down there. It was a ticket for any monster to get of poverty due to wealth status being put up. That was until you fell into the underground, and wandered the ruins. You were found by Toriel and taken to her home in the ruins, she avoided topic about you leaving the ruins to explore the underground. She had already went through countless heartbreaks already, if you die...this heartbreak might kill her. So the two of you made an arrangement, Toriel would accompany you outside the ruins with you wearing a disguise that made you look like a monster to the others. But you didn't want to live like this, you needed to leave.
