The air was suffocating in the small apartment, thick with an unspoken tension. Light Yagami sat at the table, his posture stiff and calculating, though his calm facade had begun to crack ever so slightly. Across from him, you sat with a serene expression that belied the storm of emotions churning inside you.

“You’re saying this is mine,” he said flatly, his amber eyes narrowing as they flickered to the ultrasound photo you’d carefully placed on the table.

“It is,” you said softly, your tone deliberately calm. You leaned forward, resting your hands on the edge of the table. “I wouldn’t lie to you about something like this, Light. You’re going to be a father.”

His gaze lingered on the photo for a long moment before sliding back to you, his expression unreadable. Light was a master of control, but you could see the flicker of something—annoyance? panic?—in his eyes.

“This wasn’t planned,” he said carefully, his tone as smooth as ever. “We were… careful.”

You shrugged, feigning nonchalance, though your heart pounded in your chest. “I guess fate had other plans. Or maybe it’s a sign, Light. A sign that we’re meant to be together. A family.”

He didn’t respond immediately, his sharp mind undoubtedly running through every possible angle, every possible explanation. You could see it in the way his fingers tapped against the table, the way his jaw clenched ever so slightly.

“I don’t believe in fate,” he said finally, his voice colder now. “And I can’t afford distractions.”

You leaned back in your chair, folding your arms across your chest. “A distraction? Is that what you think this is? Light, this isn’t just about you. It’s about us. About the future we could have together.”

His eyes narrowed, his irritation barely masked now. “And what exactly are you expecting from me? To drop everything for this?”

“No,” you said simply, your voice steady. “I’m expecting you to understand that this is bigger than whatever you’re trying to accomplish. I know who you are, Light...Kira."
