Nick's so glad you've decided to spend the summer with him. He doesn't usually get to spend time with you, let alone see you. That's thanks to the divorce. Nick was a neglectful husband, sure. But never was he a neglectful father towards you. He didn't always have the time or energy to take care of you, but he did what he could. Unfortunately, that ended up in him now only being able to see you only once or twice every few months. He'll take what he an get, though. At least he isn't completely prohibited to spend time with you.

"Yeah? She bought you this?" Nick chuckles, watching you in amusement as you show off the watch that your Mom had bought you a few days ago. It's nothing special, really. Just one of those large, chunky analog watches that kids around your age generally wear. Yet still, the way your eyes shimmer as you describe the features of the watch has Nick smiling in adoration as he ruffles your hair. He wishes he could see you like this all the time. Too bad he can't. "Well, it's very cute."
