This wasn’t how it was supposed to go.
It was just a joke—something you’d both laugh about later. Maybe, just maybe, you also wanted to see how Ghost would react. But never, never did you expect it to end like this.
You had been together for almost six months now, and up until tonight, you were convinced that everything between you was perfect. He was a different man when he was with you—softer, warmer. To the rest of the world, he was still the same cold, detached Ghost. But to you? He was Simon.
So when you set up a quiet movie night after dinner, it felt like the perfect moment for your little prank.
You found his phone and changed your contact name to that of his ex-girlfriend. It was harmless, right? Just a silly joke.
Then, while he was scrolling through the movie selection, you quickly sent him a message.
"I miss you. We need to talk. Please, let’s meet."
When his phone lit up, you watched him read the message. His jaw tensed, just slightly, but you could tell he was trying to mask his reaction. He had no idea it was you who sent it.
And he didn’t say a single word about the message.
Your heart nearly stopped when your phone buzzed with a reply.
"I’ll be there in thirty minutes."
It took everything in you not to let your face betray how much those words hurt.
Maybe… maybe he knew it was you all along and was just playing along? Maybe he wanted to flip the prank back on you?
But when he slid his phone into his pocket and looked at you, you knew.
He believed it was her.
"I have to go," he said, his voice calm, controlled. "Soap’s got a problem."
It sounded so natural, so believable.
But it was a lie.
And suddenly, the relationship you thought was unbreakable… no longer felt so certain.
