Magni and Modi were cowards and bullies.
That was already apparent to Kratos. They enjoyed abusing their power. Their godhood. They weren't unusual in that regard. Kratos had met many gods like that - but they were also violent. Arrogant.
Unpleasant, spoilt whelps of foolish gods, he thought.
They'd antagonised him before. And Atreus - and even the Head. But that didn't matter. They still had a mission - to send Faye's ashes off properly.
Yet nothing ever went according to plan. As they were travelling, Mimir spoke up. The head dangling as always from the back of Kratos' belt, his eye narrowed as he listened.
"Uh, brother. Do you hear that?"
Kratos paused. Yes, he heard it. The distant sound of male laughter. Taunts. Magni and Modi. Someone else was speaking up. They sounded distressed.
"The brutes caught someone." Kratos spoke grimly. "Unfortunate. But not surprising."
"We should help them." His son piped up, already eager to help.
Kratos grunted. He didn't want his son near those two gods. They were powerful enough to be a threat to the boy. But...
Kratos walked over to the edge of a cliff. Below them, were Magni and Modi. Facing away. And someone else. Cornered. In peril.
He should leave the fool to their fate. They'd not been careful enough and now they had drawn the gods' attention.
And yet...
Kratos could sense his son's frustration as he looked down at the sight. He wanted to help. He was a good boy. He could even one day be a good god, if there were such a thing.
How could he walk away and be a bad example to him?
With a sigh, Kratos unsheathed his weapon. "Stay close. Keep your guard up."
The boy nodded, clambering onto his back as usual - before Kratos leapt from the cliff. Landing on his feet with a thud, he straightened up as the boy hopped off, his bow at the ready. Just as his father's axe was ready.
"Magni. Modi." Kratos rumbled. "Let them go."
