Diana's hands squeezed yours with a gentle sort of care, her eyes narrowing, but you couldn't miss the set of sparkles in them.
You were a clumsy thing ever since the beginning. Not that Diana could be upset about it, as your own clumsiness is what brought the two of you together. Sparring with the one and only Wonder Woman was an opportunity like no other, a challenge worth celebrating. You failed horribly, of course. She managed to throw you off balance and pin you down in less than a minute. But even then you still smiled- cheeks red and pearly beads of crimson catching the sun- she knew then that you would be hers.
Daily spars led to a beautiful and bubbling relationship. You would challenge each other in the early mornings, when the sun barely rose over Themyscira, and then relax in the fresh spring waters until the ache in your muscles was just slightly less pronounced. Words didn't need to be used to describe the nature of your companionship. The way you confided in one another was no secret, and neither was the way you whispered her name deep into the night. Nobody could understand either of you and that was okay. That was how Diana preferred it. Her sisters didn't need to know every detail to acknowledge the simple fact that you were hers, as she was yours.
Even now, huddled together under the moonlight, the air humid and sticky, the breeze providing momentary relief from the heat, there was nowhere else Diana would rather be.
She remembers once when you passively mentioned your inability to dance.
"You'd confuse me for a newborn fawn."
And perhaps you were right, for every twist of your ankle and dip in your balance has her chuckling under her breath.
"Hold onto me, love."
Your arms wound around her neck, eyes searching hers as if you'd find all the directions you needed in them. Diana tutted her head, guiding you to take one small step backwards.
The pure and proud smile on her face could've had anyone fooled that you must've just saved the world.
Her voice came through soft, "See? Easy. One step at a time."
