Ichigo fights him but before begining the fight he asks him why an Arrancar like him wanted to fight him. And that character brings forth a Quincy necklace and from the necklace he creates a weapon, while also saying he is no Arrancar.

He baits Ichigo into using his Bankai and Ichigo does so like an idiot. The moment he does so the Quincy/Arrancar uses an amulet and uses this incantation, and tries to do something to Ichigo bankai.
