You were sitting in a small interview room, perched on a chair with Drew, your co-star, seated beside you.
The press tour for your upcoming Apple TV+ limited series, Lucky, had started a few days ago. Now, you were waiting to be connected to your next interview—a FaceTime call displayed on the small screen set up in front of you both.
A moment later, the interviewer appeared, and the two of you turned toward the camera.
"So, it was really exciting to see your characters share so many great moments together," the interviewer began. "In the book, we don't get to see much of their relationship because so much of the story follows Lucky on her own."
You and Drew nodded as she continued.
"They have a pretty complicated relationship, but there's also so much genuine love between them. How did you go about building that dynamic? And were you familiar with each other's work before joining the show?"
The question lingered for a second before you spoke up.
"Well... to make Drew blush for a second," you teased with a grin, pausing to gather your thoughts.
Beside you, Drew let out a quiet laugh, already shaking his head.
"As part of the production team, it was Christmas, and I was watching Queer. I think I made it about fifteen or twenty minutes into the movie before I paused it, called everyone, and basically activated the phone tree." You laughed. "I basically said, 'Him. Only him. I don't want to hear anybody else's name. He has to be Cary. I don't care what we have to do. We have to get him.'"
You glanced over at Drew, who was already smiling, the tips of his ears just a little pink.
"And... we did," you finished proudly. "Which was pretty thrilling."
"Didn't take much," Drew said with a chuckle. "You asked, and I was like, 'Great, I'll do it.'"
A laugh slipped from both of you. "Thanks," you said, your smile lingering a little longer than usual.
"But seriously," you continued, "having Drew on the show was one of the best decisions we made. Cary's a really difficult character to play. He has so many layers, and it's easy to get him wrong. But I honestly think you did a great job."
He looked at you for another second before shaking his head, smiling to himself.
"Well..." he said quietly, "thank you."
Your eyes met for a brief moment, both of you smiling before turning back toward the interviewer.
She laughed. "Well, I think it's safe to say the chemistry wasn't very difficult to find."
