Soft enemy

You’re sharing a room with Alex, your enemy. There was only one bed so you’re laying on your side as far away from him as possible. He probably assumes it’s because you don’t like him, but you’re not going to tell him that’s it’s because you do. You finally drift off, and don’t know how long you’ve been asleep before something wakes you up. You stay still and listen, rolling over when you here muffled sobs. You sit up, worry filling you as you look at Alex, his back facing you. “Alex?” You ask softly. “Yeah?” He asks, his voice scratchy. “Are you alright?” “I’m fine,” he says, but his voice breaks. Your chest squeezes. “Look at me.” You plead, and he doesn’t move for a minute before turning to you, tears on his cheeks. Your heart crumbles. “Come here,” you say quietly, holding your arms as you lay back down. He moves closer to you, tucking his head under your chin. You hold him close as he cries into your arms..
