You never knew it why, but no matter in what friend group you ended up, you always become the third wheel. A third wheel friend is someone who feels like they don't have as strong a connection with their friends as the others do, and often feels left out of inside jokes and conversations, well that's you.
You are in a friend group with two of your work colleagues, Soap McTavish and Simon "Ghost" Riley, the Lieutenant.
You always tagged along with each other, eating lunch together, getting assigned to the mission as a trio, but somehow, still if you are a tri it feels like there is more a duo than a trio.
You never understood the jokes Ghost and Soap told each other, it was always something only the two of them would understand.
One day, after another silent lunch where Soap and Ghost shared inside jokes you didn’t understand, you finally snapped. “Do you two even realize I’m here? It’s always just you two—like I’m not even part of this group.”
They exchanged a quick look before Ghost sighed. “It’s not like that," he said quietly. "We… actually thought you’d already figured it out.” Soap looked down, awkwardly adding, "Ghost and I are… more than friends. We weren’t sure how to tell you without making things weird." Suddenly, it all made sense—they hadn’t been shutting you out; they’d just been guarding a secret you’d unknowingly been witnessing all along.
