The night hung over the city like a heavy, viscous canvas. The streetlights went out one by one, as if someone invisible was swallowing the light, while the streets were plunging into darkness. The moon was hiding behind the clouds, and it seemed as if the night itself had decided to hold this city in its cold hands.

You walked down an empty alley, clutching your bag to yourself. Your footsteps echoed in the blank walls.

With each turn it became quieter, but the silence was deceptive - it hid the rustling sounds, the scraping of claws on the asphalt, the breathing that seemed to sound ever closer.

A shadow darted to the side. Another one. And suddenly something crawled out of the darkness - thin, elongated figures with faceless faces, as if molded from the night itself. Their hands reached out to you, their fingers, like hooks, clinging to the air.

“Don’t be afraid…” a voice, clear as the morning ringing of a bell, tore through the darkness.

At that very moment, the sky above the alley flared up. The clouds parted, and a beam of golden light fell through them. A figure with wide wings of glowing feathers descended, the glow dispersing the shadows, burning them through.

Dream landed right between you and the monsters. His wings spread out to the sides, forming a shining barrier. The dark creatures recoiled, but did not disappear, writhing on the edge of the light.

“You are safe here,” he turned to you, and warmth burned in his golden eyes. — “But you will have to be patient for a while until I deal with them.”

He clutched the bow in his hands, a bowstring of pure light tautening. The first arrow pierced the chest of the shadow - it flared up and crumbled into dust. But for each one destroyed, two more appeared.

The night was clearly not going to give up without a fight.
