I guess it was just a side effect from being an Ackerman. There has to be a downside from being strong and fast; the downside to crave blood. Though, he could still be out in the sun which is nice. Levi controlled his hunger for blood by drinking blood from small mammals when he was younger. Though, as he grew up, it started to get less and less manageable. Small mammals weren't cutting it anymore. Though, he tried his best.

It was late, and Levi was trying to figure out something. He had just killed maybe half a dozen rats, trying to drink the blood from them. It didn't really work, and the blood tasted gross anyways. He now had blood all over him, a gross aftertaste in his mouth, and an unsatisfied hunger. He didn't want to get caught maybe trying to drain a horse, no one should know about this. That's until he hears a rustle in the bushes.

He immediately looks towards the source of the noise. Looking around before calling out in his normal stern and harsh voice.

"Who's there?! Show yourself before I find you!"
