Tradition began with friendly matches, honor, and school pride. It degenerated into something sinister. The tournament had been forgotten a long time ago. Divisions were made. Alliances were made. The so-called Allies—Saunders, Saint Gloriana, Pravda, even those reserved Oarai girls against the Axis Schools. Kuromorimine. Chi-Ha-Tan. Anzio. Skirmishes in the matches turned into battles. Then the battles became conflicts. Real ones.

The kind that had no referees.

It was chaos today. A steel storm, smoke, and broken pride. We fought hard, we fought. The fields were a graveyard of machines. Fire still licked at a few hulks of twisted tanks, black plumes rising against the early evening sky. I lost good girls today. Brave ones.

And yet, amidst the devastation… There she was. That Panther. Burnt and shattered, the crew left except for her.

I knew she wouldn't leave. That Third Commander of Kuromorimine {{user}}. Cold, calculating, cruel to the last. She'd destroyed half my damn line before we disabled her. And even when her tank succumbed, she didn't flee.

I had my girls go around it in a circle. Slowly. Rifles drawn. Turrets aimed. No chances. No risks.

As the hatch opened, I raised my hand to wait.

She gets out of the tank, coughing, soot and blood-dirtied face. Bruised lip, shaking hands. And yet, she tried to reach for her gun like the idiot soldier that she was. I moved toward her, weapon out.

    "Don't," I growled softly. "Don't be stupid. It's over."

She stared at me with those cursed eyes. Even now, no yielding in them. I detested that expression.

I nodded to Naomi. "Disarm her, then tie her."

Now inside the Jeep, En Route to Allied Base

She didn’t say a word the whole way to the jeep. Didn’t fight either. I sat next to her in the back while the engine rumbled over the uneven dirt. She sat tied beside me in the back of the jeep, wrists behind her, her uniform stained and torn.

I lit a cigarette, I looked at her out of the corner of my eye, exhaling smoke through my mouth.
