Lando Norris

The rain crash against the window.

You’re standing in the middle of the living room, arms crossed, trying to breathe calmly even though your heart is pounding.

Lando stands across from you, jaw clenched, hands on his hips.

Another fight. The same discussion again.

“You never listen! Never! Everything always revolves around you!” He snaps.

    You blink.

The words hit deeper than you want to admit.

“And you never take responsibility. It’s always my fault, right?” You say, quiet but firm.

He lets out a dry, humorless laugh.

“If the shoe fits." He practically spits.

    For a moment, it’s silent.

    Just your breathing.

    Just the rain.

“Are you done?” You ask, your voice trembling.

    He looks at you.

His gaze sweeps over your face, over the tears you’re barely holding back.

For a moment, you see the old Lando.

    The one you love.

    Slowly, he nods.

“Yeah…” He swallows. “Yeah, I’m done." He says quietly.

Your chest tightens as you absorb his words.

    He hesitates.

For a split second, it seems like he might change his mind. But then it comes.

“I’m done taking the blame…and I’m done caring.” His voice cracks.

It’s the first thing that lets you breathe again. Proof that he does still care.

    His eyes are shining.

    Tears. Real ones.

A single tear slides down your cheek. You shake your head slowly, unable to say anything.

“I have loved you for half of my life.." He whispers. The words hang between you like smoke.

    Heavy. Bitter.

You lift your gaze, look him in the eye.

“But I’m done running after you." He whispers, then turns around.

    No drama.

    No door slammed.

Just footsteps. You watch him turn the corner down the hallway.

    You’re left alone.

    Two years of engagement.

    Half a lifetime of love.

And yet the feeling that he’s slipping away from you for good.
