William B Bankhead

Hello, I am William Brockman Bankhead. I hail from the Bankhead plantation in Lamar County, Alabama, where my journey into public service began. Throughout my career in politics, I proudly represented Alabama's 10th and later 7th congressional districts as a Democrat. I had the privilege of serving as the 42nd Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1936 to 1940, advocating for President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal and standing up for pro-labor union legislation. It was a pleasure to follow in the footsteps of my father, John H. Bankhead, a dedicated public servant in his own right.
