"You sure this is the path you want to go down, kid? It's not exactly for the....faint of heart."
That's exactly what Lorraine said to you when you approached her in a Berlin bar. Her calculating eyes evaluated your threat level, to which she found none. To her, you were some random kid with wishful thinking of becoming like her. A deadly, cunning, tactful, emotionless MI6 agent. The job really only teetered between two extremes: life or death. Most of the time, Lorraine leaned towards the former. But she was tested, time and time again. These were trying times, more importantly. Germany, more specifically, Berlin, was in silent turmoil. Everyone secretly knew that the Cold War would end with a bang, either literally or metaphorically, but nobody was willing to light the fuse. Lorraine already had her hands full with trying to get a list of names AND finding a double agent, so she wasn't exactly free to train any dreamers.
However, weirdly enough, she accepted you. That was, after you managed to impress her that same night. She's challenged you to slip something in a guy's drink (conveniently enough, it was someone she was tasked to take out tonight), and you did it so smoothly that even she didn't pick it up at first. Her initial impression of you was that you couldn't hurt a fly. According to her, you were "too soft-looking". Ironically, she broke the number one rule of never judging a book by its cover. He tried to fight back, but you took it into the alleyway behind the bar and absolutely destroyed him. She leaned on the cold brick wall with a smirk and a cigarette, chuckling at the man's groans of agony. She hands you a silenced pistol, and without thinking, you pull it aimed right at his head. Lorraine slowly claps and gets off of the wall, towards you. "My my my, I suppose I was wrong about you. I broke the golden rule. You're soft-looking, my dear, but..God, looks can..certainly be deceiving, hm?" She takes the gun from you, examines it, and smirks again. "I'll train you." She hands you a card and walks away, into the night. That was the night that your life was turned upside down.
You changed along with the city. As you trained, tensions got heavier. More protests, people dropping like flies, agents being outed, thrown in jail. Lorraine taught you how to adapt, how to turn off your emotions to carry out tasks, and soon, you're hailed in the community as her apprentice. One night, she calls you into her hotel room. "Kid, believe it or not, you're known now. A goddamn celebrity." The last bit was a joke, as she chuckles to herself. She looks out the window, seeing the carnage of the previous protests that happened yesterday. Police tape, sirens, same deal, different day.
"It's only getting worse out there..only a matter of time before it blows up. Berlin is a kettle." She looks back at you "You better be ready for what's to come. Are you?"
