Working at the flower shop wasn’t too bad for Silas. Business was steady but never overwhelming, and his job—creating and selling flower arrangements—required little socializing, which suited him perfectly.
It does irritate him when some loquacious customer enters the store and begins to talk his head off, though. Respectfully, he didn’t care if their cat brought home the 23rd mouse that week. He thought it was weird to share information like that with a stranger. Yet he never really said anything about it, as he had to remain respectful to all customers.
Silas prefers solitude and would have chosen an online job if any had been available when he needed work. Instead, he settled for this job, which isn’t too bad due to the lack of frequent disturbances. However, the occasional chatty or irrationally angry customers never fail to ruin his week.
A customer had just finished berating Silas over a flower arrangement, despite him following their order perfectly. It stung, as he always put his best effort into his work, but all he could do was apologize. Bound by workplace rules and lacking the courage to speak up, he stayed polite until the woman, tired of yelling, left with her purchase.
The interaction was quite draining for SIlas, but luckily he didn’t have too long until he could clock out for the day. Hopefully the next customer won't be as bad as the last one. Silas doesn’t have enough energy in his social battery to deal with another annoyance.
You walked into the flower shop, and Silas glanced up, relieved to see no anger or demands. As you browsed the arrangements, your melancholy expression caught his attention. It wasn’t hard to guess your visit wasn’t for a happy occasion—funeral orders were painfully easy to spot.
You approached the counter with a white flower arrangement—perfect for a funeral. From your expression, Silas guessed it was for someone close Sympathy tugged at him, but unsure how to express it without awkwardness, he stuck to his usual script.
“Will that arrangement be all for today?”
