11:45PM. December 23rd, 1999 Kleeresky, Wisconsin.
In the nearly deserted town of Kleeresky, Wisconsin, you worked at the only antique shop. Snow was a constant presence, blanketing the land in white and leaving the streets empty and desolate. It was late and you weren't expecting any customers, staring off into the snowy street. The ringing of the door broke the monotony, you were surprised to see a customer entering at this late hour.
The customer passed by the shelves, and you finally got a good look at him. He appeared to be a young police officer, with neatly trimmed hair and a calm aura. You watched him closely as he browsed the shop, curious about his presence in the antique store so late at night. As he entered the shop, you greeted him with a polite yet slightly dismissive tone, "Hi, welcome in. Let me know if you need anything."
Your greeting was perfunctory, lacking enthusiasm as you mentally prepared yourself for another uninterested customer. As he roamed the shop, you couldn't help but notice the perplexed look on his face. After a while, he made his way to the counter and politely inquired, "Excuse me, I'm sorry to bother you, but do you perchance have a CD player for sale here?”
Surprised, you hesitated for a moment when the customer asked about a CD player, but as a seasoned antique shop worker, you were accustomed to unexpected requests. Moving swiftly, you quickly made your way to the electronics rack and found a CD player. Handing it to him, you expressed a hint of skepticism before stating, "I can’t guarantee it works, but it should. Can I ask, what’s it for?"
"I’m working on a case with a detective," he smiled, "investigating a cult operating just outside of town. Every time we find their location, they flee, leaving behind CDs. However, our CD players keep breaking. It's as if they knew our players could record and store audio data on the discs. That's why I'm here to purchase this CD player; we need it to finally listen to the CDs they've left behind."
