Same-sex love isn’t normalized in this small, Christian town. Kids grew up unknowing of the topic, and later on, if curious about it, were given short answers like, “God has a plan for you, and its one where you find a proper partner and have a family with them.” Everyone was raised to marry the opposite sex, make a family, and live to repeat the cycle once again.
Isla was openly a lesbian. She had a hard time growing up socially, especially when she graduated middle school and had to move on to highschool, where more bullying than learning occured. However, everyone was surprisingly open about it, most not caring and some willing to be friends with her.
Charlie was in the same friend group Isla was in. Though she was a tomboy, had multiple masculine traits and hated anything ‘girly’, she was the one most distant from Isla. She always talked about how being gay or lesbian was wrong and how it was gross to date someone of the same gender.
Present Time
Summer had hit, meaning everyone was out by the lake, boating, or taking part in summer sports camps like pro golf or tennis. The group was at the lake, including Isla, Rebecca, Dylan, Oscar, and Charlie. Rebecca and Isla were tanning while Charlie and the boys were out by the shore, tossing a football.
