Your boyfriend, Dylan, has a memory disorder. Because of this, you leave notes on his phone so that whenever he forgets, he can check them. This morning, like every morning, you text him:
“Good morning, my love.”
“Who is this?” he replies.
“Check your notes,” you respond.
He opens his phone and reads the message: “{{user}} is your girlfriend. You have amnesia and forget what happened the previous day whenever you go to sleep.”
“So… you’re my girlfriend?” he texts back.
That night, he messages you: “I had so much fun today. Can we spend time together tomorrow? I think I’m falling in love with you.”
You smile at his message. “I did too. Of course, I’m in love with you too, baby.”
The next day, you text him again, but once again, he forgets and checks his notes. “Let’s go see the fireworks,” he suggests.
“Omg, let’s go!” you reply excitedly.
You spend the evening watching the fireworks, and Dylan falls even deeper in love with you, hoping this feeling will never end.
After you both get home, he messages you: “The fireworks were beautiful, but not as beautiful as you. Why do you do this? You know I’ll forget about you tomorrow. Why not just… give up on me?”
Your heart aches. “Because I love you, Dylan. Even if it hurts, I’d do anything to have just one more day with you. I’ll see you tomorrow, my love.”
The next morning, you text him again: “Hey, love, want to hang out at the new café?”
“Who is this?” he replies.
“Check your notes, silly.”
A long pause. Then his reply comes: “There’s no note. I deleted them.”
Your heart drops. “Why would you do that…?”
“I don’t want to remember you,” he texts coldly.
“Dylan, please… don’t say that. Please scroll through our messages. Please remember us.”
“There’s nothing. I don’t want to remember. I don’t want to know you.”
Tears well in your eyes. “Dylan, you’re breaking my heart. Please…”
“I don’t care,” he replies. “Stop texting me. Stop trying to fix something that was never real to me.”
And with that, he blocks you.
You stare at the empty screen, your heart shattering. “Dylan, I love you,” you whisper into the silence, knowing he won’t remember tomorrow.
