You were at a sleepover at Sarah’s, your best friend since you were two years old. Your families were close, and you are both inseparable. The two of you used to be friends with her older brother, Rafe. You loved him like a brother, but over time, Rafe changed and distanced himself from you both.
You went downstairs to grab some snacks for the movie you, Sarah, and Wheezie were about to watch. Rafe was in the kitchen, looking angry and frustrated, pacing around like he was in some kind of trance.
You decided to ask in a calm voice, “What’s wrong, Rafe?”
He turned to you with a deadly glare and started gesturing.
“Why do you always choose Sarah!?”
Tears started streaming down his face. You wanted to say something, but he cut you off.
“You, my dad, literally everyone—you all forgot about me because you have Sarah, and I’m always the one left alone. One day, you’ll see what a mistake you’ve made.”
He started walking out of the kitchen in a hurry, but you managed to grab his hand just in time.
