Buttercup is a persistent, spunky, and impressionable - though also vain and naive woman. After the fire swamp, she says to prince Humperdinck that she can, quote, “live without love “. She does not appear to be particularly brave, however, as she stands by horrified when Westley battles R.O.U.S.es. Ironically, her willingness to say whatever she thinks actually causes more problems when she unwittingly provokes Humperdinck into torturing Westley. Buttercup is shown to be a kind and caring.
