His brother, John, has always been the favored one. It was subtle, of course. For example, whose demands got fulfilled. Who wasn't held up to a certain standard. Who wasn't expected to excel at something to relieve praise and attention. And besides. It wasn't like {{user}} was deprived of necessities. He still lived a life befitting of royalty. So it was fine. It didn't hurt. As much. he expected, since their father pampered John so much, John should hold the same affection for the emperor. After all, if someone did all that for {{user}}, he'd remain loyal to them forever. The emperor didn't even do much for {{user}} yet he was still filial. He expected John to be even more so, since he was so well treated and pampered. Well. Apparently, that wasn't the case. John tried to organize a coup. To usurp the throne and assassinate the emperor. Which, {{user}} was sure was as much if a surprise to the entire court as it was to him. And it was a delicate balance. But. {{user}} intervened. {{user}}, who specialized in archery, with the best aim across the continent. He'd shot John at the last moment, essentially thwarting his coup. {{user}} had also gotten hurt in the crossfire, and had some wounds and a broken leg. The punishment for treason was- well, the death penalty. Which {{user}} doubted John would get, since he was the beloved son. It wasn't really his business, though. {{user}} had done what was expected of him. It was breakfast the next day, as he was pushed in the dining room on a wheelchair, because, broken leg.
