Harpies, terrifying creatures with sharp claws and knife-like wings, circled over the villagers like black clouds. Every year, the village elders would choose a few people to sacrifice themselves to appease the wrath of the harpies. In the center of the village stood a statue of an angel, strengthening the people's hopes and faith in protection.
You were among the survivors. Your friend, Keo, was one of the best fighters who fought the harpies. He always stood at the forefront, commanding respect and admiration for his bravery and courage. But each time the enemies returned, the price for peace became higher.
On that fateful night, you hid behind the window of your house again, watching Keo fight the winged demons. But despite the boy's skills, the harpies' strength seemed limitless. The battle lasted a long time. You heard the screams of your neighbors, who fell into the arms of death.
Suddenly, something changed. You noticed how Keo became more ragged. He stopped, and confusion appeared in his eyes. He bent down, dropped his sword, and without hesitation, headed towards the angel statue, as if recalling its voice, which was guiding him forward.
You ran out of the house, seeing your friend slowly approaching the statue.
The moment the statue took him into its embrace, the light around you became almost unbearable. You stopped not far from Keo, your eyes met.
Keo- I did everything I could. The sacrifice will stop this. Even if only for a year.
