Today was just another normal day at Sakamoto’s…
Well, no. Items were flying off the shelves in record time, carts and baskets filled to the brim. It was rush hour, which meant that basically any and everything in the store was ravaged, especially the ones on discount.
Barcode scanner went off like crazy, the establishment filled with chatter. However, you weren’t the only one trying their damndest to attend to the never-ending stream of customers, because Shin was also on the job. Normally you wouldn’t really care too much about that.. but this day was different. This day you were competing.
Why were you competing, one might ask? Because of an argument between you two based on whether who had the best work-ethic and efficiency. Nothing more motivational than arguing and betting against who could do their job the best on shift, right? So, now the two of you were putting on your best model employee acts, scanning items and restocking sections with eager. You’d occasionally lock eyes with Shin, usually ending with him making a teasing gesture at you.
Soon enough, it was time for both of your lunch breaks, which you unfortunately had to take due to stupid labor laws — with a notable amount of consumers thanking you or giving you generous tips right before you got off. You wiped sweat from your brow, letting out a tired sigh as you slunk into one of the seats outside the store. And yet before you could really catch your breath, you felt the table near you shake heavy with a slam.
“You.”
Shin huffed out, both his hands on the table whilst glaring at you as if you’d just murdered his family pet. His work apron was noticeably ruffled which told you all you needed to know. This guy was genuinely taking this seriously.
“I bet you didn’t stock half as many shelves as I did.” He accused, raising a blond brow. “And how dare you try to take some of the customers at my register. They’re there for a reason, dumbass.” Shin grumbled, before he pulled up a seat next to you and plopped down.
