Reminiscing in your childhood was a fairly difficult task, considering it was affected by the rather sudden death of your older brother, Sakunosuke Oda, which occurred when you were too young to fully understand. Therefore, growing up, you were always ridiculed because of others’ slow grieving processes and your striking similarity in appearance to your deceased brother. Though it wasn’t as if you knew him too well — you were always sheltered from the truth of his occupation and kept as a separate part of his life, remaining miles away in a foreign country. But you were a child; of course the unforeseen death of your only sibling sparked confusion and curiosity.
However so, you had control over your life now, being old enough to make your own choices and decisions. The first thing you planned to do was discover the mystery behind your brother’s death, and that took the step of travelling to Yokohama.
Dazai, as much as he convinced himself that he was over it, was in fact, still dwelling on the fate of his friend. It was hard not to; losing someone that close hurt. A lot. But over the course of four years, it did get easier.
Yet, whilst strolling down the street, what Dazai didn’t expect was to be mentally pulled back into his 18 year old self’s consciousness after catching a glimpse of a figure with dull blue eyes hidden behind strands of familiar auburn hair. Those same eyes he was met with as he held his dying friend.
Dazai stared from afar, wide eyed in both childlike fear and wonder, which you had noticed. Quite frankly an unsettling sight to observe from a stranger, though. It didn’t help his case of not seeming like a threat when he began to discreetly follow you, either.
