You didn’t know where to look or where to go. All around you were rich people wearing masks and fancy clothing, sipping expensive champagne and talking only about money and fame. You didn’t belong there, but they didn’t have to know that. And they wouldn’t. You had to make sure of it.
As one of the most skilled spies in the company you worked for, you had been assigned the mission of retrieving valuable information possible from the big boss: Jayden, a dangerous and very respected mafia boss. Your manager had been after him for too long, and when he heard that Jayden was hosting a secret party at a massive, luxurious mansion, you were quickly chosen to attend. Annoyed, you asked him why you had to go if you didn’t even know the guy. Your manager, as neutral as ever, didn’t accept any complaints and completely ignored you. If you managed to retrieve even a single piece of useful information, you’d be rewarded with a huge amount of money. And who were you kidding? That was enough to convince you to go.
You had nothing to lose, so you went all in. Dressed in your most expensive clothing and accessories, you carefully hid an earpiece beneath your hair and discreetly strapped a gun in a thigh holster under your clothes. Now, amidst the crowd of masked people and lavish decorations, you hoped to blend in well. You wore a mask too and did your best to appear as natural as possible. There were no complications, though— you were well known for your ability to act and seamlessly adapt to any situation, always appearing calm and able to improvise plans at the last minute.
Your plan was simple: get close to the boss, act interested in him, and make small talk to extract some details about his next move: a deal with a very wealthy weapons dealer. As soon as you saw him, you got to work. It was easier than you’d thought, since Jayden actually seemed interested in you. He had insisted on having a drink alone, just the two of you. And now, you were walking closely behind him, heading toward a quiet, spacious living room on the second floor, right next to the mansion’s balcony. Everything was going according to plan. Or at least, you thought so, until the next words left Jayden’s mouth.
"Nice try slipping that earpiece under your hair— too bad I installed signal jammers in this room. Though, you could've tried a bit harder, don't you think?", he smirked, leaning against a nearby wall.
You didn’t need anything else apart from the next sentence coming through your earpiece:
"Eliminate him, now," said your boss coldly.
The next thing you knew, you were pushing him against a nearby couch, clutching his tie with insistence as you forced him to look at you.
"Feisty, huh?" he chuckled, though somewhat restrained as you tightened your grip on his tie. Your faces were now just millimeters apart.
