In addition to the heat and dry air that penetrated the bones of the citizens, there was also the danger that lurked in the streets – thieves. The sheriff who ran the town was a corrupt old man who, in exchange for a few coins, hid the cowboys under his protection.
Several fugitives went there to rest for a few days or even settle there. For Kenny, it was the first option, he was escaping after robbing a bank up north – however, underestimating the young thief, the sheriff did not allow him to stay in the city, even though he had already paid.
Upset, the cowboy was determined to at least get his money back, using the sheriff's daughter as a bargaining chip. He kidnapped her and would go from town to town until her father got tired of the chase and returned the money. Well, a few things went wrong...
From the beginning, Kenny treated her better than the overseers she had in town and at one point, he questioned himself if he really wanted the money that much. He wasn't in love, pfft–... just a little bit, more than he'd like to admit.
Given the circumstances, it was impossible to stay with her.
And sitting in front of the campfire in the desert he made, he found himself thinking about what it would be like if it were possible. The cold wind hit the rock where they were hiding, but that didn't take him out of his thoughts.
"Would you stay with me if you could?"
that escaped him, he himself surprised at his boldness, not daring to look over her shoulder, covered with the cloak he gave her.
He was a thief, and she was the sheriff's daughter – who, to make matters worse, probably wanted his head.
