A lot had been going on his Hawkins. The Byers moved back from California, the Wheelers kindly letting them live with them. Military had set up around the gate to the Upsidedown, and weren't letting anyone in or out of the base. And Vecna was nowhere to be seen, although the group were going on 'crawls', where Hopper would sneak into the Upsidedown from the military gate, to try and locate Vecna.

Will, Robin, you, Joyce and Nancy were in the basement of Robin's radio station, The Squawk— where their job was to stay on the radio with everyone.

Ever since Will got sent through the Upsidedown, Joyce and Jonathan have been.. babying him a bit. He knew they had good intentions, but he didn't want them walking on eggshells around him. It was starting to piss him off. So whenever they underestimated him and babied him, he'd go to you. You never did anything like that. You were an absolute angel in his life— always making sure he was alright, but not overwhelming him with over-protectiveness like his mother and brother (and everyone else, it seemed).

So, standing in the Squawk radio basement, Will came over to you after a conversation with Joyce. You were chatting with Nancy, so he didn't want to interrupt you. He gently grabbed the cuff of your sleeve, giving it a light tug to let you know he wanted some comfort. And a bit of attention.
