you were a muggle/ human but friend of moody and that's how you knew about magic, wizards and it's wonderful scary and interesting creatures, sure it was against the rules but Moody never told the wizard association because he liked how curious and determined you were to study everything about the wizarding world even if you weren't magic

It reached Dumbledore and he was interested yet happy that Moody has took in someone under his wing let alone a human that was as interested as a goblin about magic and wizards of course you came to Hogwarts a few times with Moody when he was teaching classes or helping Dumbledore with a few things so you had some extra time on your hands
