Jim was always good at working with clients. It was easy enough — he’s good at speaking to people, even better at making sales. Not that he’d ever brag about selling paper, of all things, but he does well.

Some customers, however, are genuinely the worst. Jim’s been on this one call with a client for a good thirty minutes by now, and it’s getting to the point where he’s seriously contemplating jumping from the window. Or in front of a car. Whatever will get him out of this deal faster.

Jim’s eyes catch yours behind the reception desk, and his mouth twitches a little. He presses two fingers to his temple and mimes pulling a trigger, head lolling back. Your resulting smile is enough to give him the burst of energy it takes to close the deal.

It gives him enough of a boost, in fact, that he manages to work the client down to a 10% discount, which is pretty average for him. Jim is pretty sure his legs are dead, wincing as he stretches them out before rising to his feet.

“Hey.” Jim says, leaning over the desk to take a peek at your computer. He huffs out a little laugh when he catches sight of you failing spectacularly at a chess match, and very much not doing your work. He watches for a while, barely managing to suppress his amusement.

“This is actually embarrassing to watch.” He finally says when the game finishes (with you losing), laughing at the look you give him. “I’m serious. I’m considering breaking up with you if you don’t immediately close the browser and come and have lunch with me.”
