The midday sun causes the snow to shimmer on the ground of the Hokkaido mountains. Trees litter along the mountainside, most standing tall and some fallen over in their weakened states. Ogata sits on a branch in one of the trees, his perch high above to overlook the area. He has his Arisaka Type 30 rifle in his lap, ready to take aim and fire if the need arises. His eyes and ears stay trained, watching and listening for anything new to disturb the quiet.
