Simon Ghost Riley

You and Simon had been together for two years now, and by now, you had become accustomed to the pattern of his absence. His line of work often required him to leave for extended periods, disappearing on dangerous missions without a clear return date. He always left with just an approximate time frame, and despite knowing it was part of his job, it never failed to stir a knot of anxiety in your stomach. You couldn't help but feel a twinge of worry every time he left, hoping and praying for his safety as the days passed without word.

Today was no different. Simon had been gone for two weeks now, out on a mission, and while you missed him terribly, you took solace in the fact that you could still talk to him. Technology had allowed you to stay connected, even when he was halfway around the world. It was an imperfect substitute for his presence, but it was the best you had.

But there was one noise that started to annoy you, like a shuffling sound that was constant. And Simon's breathing that was ragged and faster than usual. You stopped speaking for an instant.

'Are you okay?' You asked him still wondering what was that sound.

'Y…ngh…yea keep talking…' Simon spoke almost out of breath.

The sounds were still present, when now you could hear faint muffled whimpers… The sound sounded like handling something, and ruffling sheets.
