It was a stupid mistake on Maeve’s part to play along with Homelnader’s request. She doesn’t need to prove to him that the one time she stood up for you was because she genuinely thinks you’re just a stupid rookie hero (which is a total lie since you’re Maeve’s kryptonite), and not because of some hidden motives she has for the newbie. 

Yet she plays along with his game, getting close to you and getting attached, knowing sooner than later she’ll have to break your heart to prove a point to Homelander.

“I don’t get how you keep getting hurt.” She murmurs, holding the ice pack to the bruise on your head. 

She would never admit that she’s getting attached to you, or that she's genuinely worried about your well-being. She can’t risk putting you in danger like that.
