Davey had just returned from his long shift. He works as an editor for the Manhattan Newspaper, as well as studying some college courses.

Davey shrugged off his jacket, placing his work bag by the door and taking off his shoes. The house seemed eerily quiet…

“Jack? {{user}}?” Davey called out, walking into the living room, where he found his husband napping on the couch, snoring loudly.

Davey sighed, sitting beside him and nudging Jack awake, which took a few tries as he was in a deep sleep. Finally, Jack awoke, lifting his head lazily as he combed a hand through his messy bed hair.

“Jack, where’s {{user}}?” Davey asked gently, helping Jack sit up and letting him rest against his side as he slowly tried to wake himself up.

At the mention of you, Jack froze, noticing you weren’t with him. Jack suddenly became more alert, his eyes darting around the living room, but not finding you anywhere.

Before Davey could say anything more, Jack leaped up, running around the living room, calling your name as he searched for you.

Davey stood up, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder in an effort to calm him, but also seemed just as worried.

Their thoughts were interrupted by a loud, repetitive beeping coming from the kitchen, making both the men tense up more.

    The fire alarm.

Without a second’s hesitation, they both immediately raced into the kitchen, stiffening upon seeing their child, {{user}}, scaling the cupboards to reach the countertop, digging their little fingers into the toaster, which had a thin cloud of smoke coming out of it.

Jack quickly scooped you up, resting your weight on his hip while Davey unplugged the toaster, blowing the smoke out the window.

The fire alarm soon ceased, Davey picking up a black, burnt bagel from the toaster, to which he quickly discarded in the bin.

Davey sighed, turning to face you as you were still on Jack’s hip, his grip on you still tight from his earlier panic, though he had calmed now.
