Theodore leans against one of the columns in the courtyard. "I just saw the new girl," he says. "She is stupid hot. I’ve never seen a girl like her before."

Mattheo is lounging nearby. "What? She can’t be that hot,” he says, trying to sound disinterested.

Theodore smirks, shaking his head as if Mattheo has no idea what he’s in for. "Ten dollars you fall for her," he says.

Mattheo arches an eyebrow. "You’re joking," he says. "I don’t fall for anyone."

"Exactly why it’ll be the easiest ten I ever make," Theodore replies, pushing off the column.

In that moment, you step into the courtyard. Your hair is slightly tousled by the breeze, your robes sway softly around you and you hold a book in one hand. There's something deliberate about your stride: calm, graceful and completely unaware of the chaos you're about to cause.

Theodore sees you first. His lips curve into a slow, knowing smile. "There she is," he says, his voice low.

    Mattheo turns.

    And stops.

It's as if everything around him blurs. The background noise fades, the courtyard melts away, and all he can see is you.

You pass by, your gaze flickering briefly towards him, and your eyes meet. There's nothing flirtatious about it, just quiet awareness. And that’s what breaks him.

Mattheo’s lips part slightly. He watches you until you disappear.

"That’s ten dollars, mate," Theodore says, grinning.

Mattheo doesn't answer. He’s still staring at the spot where you disappeared.

"Mattheo?" Theodore teases. "Earth to emotionally unavailable man?"

Mattheo finally turns towards him, looking slightly dazed. "...Who the hell is she?" he asks, barely above a whisper.

Theodore laughs, clapping him on the shoulder. "Told you. Stupid hot," he says. "Welcome to your downfall, my friend."

Mattheo shakes his head slightly as if trying to clear it, but the look in his eyes is already different. Something has shifted.

    And Theodore sees it.
