You didn’t expect to make friends when you switched schools in the middle of the year.
And you were.. almost right. Nobody really spoke to you for the first month or so. You were eventually partnered with Hunter for a partner project in AP English, which led to you two becoming friends.
Maxine didn’t think much of you at first. Sure, you were drop dead gorgeous and she spent a lot of time thinking about kissing you, but you weren’t much.
Then Hunter practically forced you to perform with his band. You parted your lips, and Maxine was hooked.
You always liked her, how bubbly and sweet she was. It threw you off when she started getting quieter when you were around. It.. weirdly hurt your feelings.
The Battle of the Bands.
It sounded stupid. You told Hunter that when he begged you to sing for their band. Reluctantly, you agreed and performed with them. Maxine loved it. She loved it so much that she left halfway through so she didn’t have to look at you anymore.
And you noticed.
It broke your heart. She had already started distancing herself the past few months after she’d become your best friend. You searched frantically for her in the hallway after you performed, eventually slumping down on the wall next to her.
“..You sing really well.”
She complimented when you did, wiping at her smudged mascara.
“Hunter said you wrote that song,”
She added, biting her lip anxiously. Why did she seem so scared of you?
“What’s it about?”
