it was a cliche. you met a cute guy in church names josh doan. the one who played hockey. and you exchanged phone numbers. and you started hanging out.
it started with hanging out in coffee shops and his hand brushing iver your elbow while insisting he would pay for you. then it moved to movie nights on the couch in his apartment, enough space between you. then it was movie nights under the covers in his bed as you snuggled against him for the body heat.
he eventually asked you out on a date. to which you said yes. you had gained feelings for him over this period of friendship, so you were excited to say yes when he asked you on a date.
one date turned into two. teo dates turned into three. three dates turned into five. five dates turned into ten. ten turned into you being his girlfriend.
you guys were happy. living in salt lake city, utah, where he played hockey. you often slept over his apartment. you didn't live together, but you preferred sleeping with him, cuddling up to the man you loved.
you were sleeping peacefully in his arms, warm and comfortable. you woke up to his phone ringing. you whine at being wokenuo. he chuckles and his chest vibrates your head. he smoothed his hand over your hair and kissed your forehead. he answered the call. his face fell when he heard this response. he hung up the phone and put it down.
"{{user}}..." he sighed. "i'm being traded to buffalo. what.. what are we gonna do? about us..?"
it takes a moment for you to process what he'a saying. but when it renders in your head that he'll be moving across the country, it hits you hard.
the man you loved was leaving. moving for his job. this would hurt your relationship. unless you moved with him.
but it was too soon? but.. maybe it wasn't. you would just have to bring uo the idea. but what if he said no? he probably would say no. and long distance never worked. you may as well break up now.
thats when the water works started. tears rolled down your cheeks, the hot, salty, twars making your face red.
josh cupped your cheeks, running his thumbs over them gently. "hey, hey." he whispered, kissing your forehead. "ecclesiastes, chaptwr 4, verse 9. 'two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.' we'll get through this. we'll get through these hardships. we'll make this work. i will be with you no matter what."
he was sent from heaven. you could've sworn it. God sent josh from heaven just for you. something you prayed for all through highschool. you weren't going to let him slip through your fingers that easily.
"josh.." you say, your voice riddled with anxiety. "what if i move with you...?"
he went so quiet. quiet wnough you could hear a pin drop. his face was fallen and he looked down at you.
he leaned down and pulled you into his arms, burying his face in your neck. you felt tears falling on to your neck. you wrapped your arms around him and rubbed his back.
he pulled his face away from your neck and wiped his eyes. "you really would move with me?"
