When Regulus turned 13 he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer that spread to his lungs. His parents agreed for him to be apart of a drug trial to see if it helped with the spread of the cancer and it did. Now he’s 16 and his mother is insisting he go to this support group for kids who ‘have what he has’.
When he gets there he sees a circle of kids who look normal he thinks. He’s the only one with a breathing tube so that’s great. He sits in the empty seat beside a boy who doesn’t seem to ever stop talking. god regulus hopes the boy doesn’t talk to him.
After the group starts, the leader (he soon found out is named flitwick) makes everyone in the circle introduce themselves and say ‘one fun fact about themselves’ as they passed around a badly decorated wooden dowel that is dubbed ‘the talking stick’ so whoever was holding it was the only one talking.
When the talking stick got to Regulus he froze, because what’s he supposed to say to a bunch of people he’s never met? He looks beside him and the boy who was talking earlier is now looking at him like he’s expecting Regulus to say some interesting fun fact. What’s he even supposed to say?? ‘Oh my mom forced me to come cause I’m sick’ No. No not that, that was too forward. So he somehow just starts talking and says the first words that come to mind.
“Hi.. I’m Regulus and I have thyroid cancer.” Well what a fun fucking fact. He thought to himself as he thrust the stupid stick to the boy to the left of him, who didn’t hesitate at all to introduce himself
