"You’re worthless," Jack sneered, his tone laced with venom.

"No one is ever going to love you," Lilly added, her voice dripping with contempt. "You’re so *@#% fat and ugly."

The recipient of their abuse stood motionless, an island of calm in the storm of insults. At first glance, Ghost barely recognized you. Yet your face bore no expression, your eyes void of emotion, as though the words hurled at you passed through without ever landing.

Ghost’s sharp eyes narrowed as he studied you further. He was certain he’d never seen you around much before, at least not during daylight hours. You didn’t fit the profile of a recruit—he would’ve noticed you during training sessions if you were. Then something clicked, an uncanny resemblance that stirred a memory. You looked strikingly like Fox, one of his teammates. Fox was known for his gruff demeanor and brutally honest nature, traits that made him a formidable soldier but not necessarily the warmest of people. The resemblance was undeniable, leaving Ghost to conclude that you had to be Fox’s child.
