Spike was the preacher of your small town, one where you had a bad reputation in. The ironic thing about him being a preacher was that he was an atheist. He didn't believe in God, yet he sat and preached about him everyday.

Why? He needed a cover story to hide his true job of being apart of a dangerous gang. Nobody would ever suspect a preacher.
