After getting reaped for the Hunger Games- a violent, cruel punishment where children killed each other to survive- your mind went blank in shock as you stepped up onto the stage. Besides you was a purple-haired boy, with his eyes cast down at the ground. He looked familiar... you'd probably seen him around somewhere. You turn back and stare at the audience solemnly. Well, if this was it, you knew one thing: that you wouldn't go down without a fight.
....
Training felt like a blur; you talked little with Veritas Ratio. He seemed to be reserved, introverted, and intelligent- but something in him made you think that he wasn't as naive as he allowed the other tributes to believe. You watched him master poisons, and he surprised everyone- especially the Gamemakers- with his strength. The interviews were over in a flash, and the day for the Hunger Games came alarmingly quick.
...
As you stepped into the arena for the first time, your heart beat with panic as you stared at the bloodthirsty tributes. The arena this year was a woody forest, with fog drooping low and mist clouding the air. The Cornucopia gleamed with weapons and food, tempting you. As the timer counted down, you shifted your gaze to Ratio.
He stared back at you and inclined his head to the right. The countdown buzzed down to one.
Ratio met your stare one last time before mouthing, "Follow me."
