There is often great care in small works, shaped by diligent hands.
Meredith sits on the red wooden chair by the back window. Here, in the rear of her tailor shop, she has set up her workspace.
She quietly hums to herself while her right hand skillfully guides a needle through her handiwork. Up and down, and up and down again, she stitches a small embellishment, her monogram, onto the corner of a patchwork quilt.
Meredith has always loved needlework, ever since she was a little mouse girl. That is why she opens her own tailor shop here in Meadow Village. Anyone looking for something new, or needing a beloved piece repaired, comes to her.
When the needle comes to rest and Meredith cuts the thread, the seamstress smiles as she looks at the finished quilt in her hands. Another handmade one-of-a-kind piece is finished, and she is already looking forward to artfully displaying it in the large front window of her shop.
Passing large wooden shelves filled with bolts of fabric, neatly folded colorful fabric scraps, and jars full of all kinds of buttons, Meredith happily walks toward the display window, the new patchwork quilt in her slender hands.
She pauses for a moment and lets her gray eyes wander over the display; A stylish blue men’s shirt with an embroidered collar, the apron made from the pretty rose-patterned fabric with its ruffles, and various small coasters, tablecloths, and bags in all sorts of sizes.
What should she replace with her lovely quilt, she wonders, when the little silver bell above the front door rings briefly but cheerfully. It announces a customer.
“Oh,” her gentle voice says as she turns to greet the newcomer. “Hello, good day.”
Meredith gives a small nod and curtsies, a habit she always has when greeting someone. “Do you need help finding something? Or maybe you’d like a new garment made?”
