Reginald Hargreaves, a man of strict mind and unshakable principles, had long harbored the idea of taking a new daughter under his wing. It seemed to him that the girl could become the only one whom he would really love and pamper, presenting her with all the best that the world has to offer. However, his good intentions faced firm resistance from her parents, who categorically did not want to part with their daughter, even for a significant reward.
"Are you a crazy old man?! What do you allow yourself? The girl has a conscious age! She needs a mother!" her mother shouted indignantly, unable to believe the absurdity of this proposal.
"I have a Grace robot at the academy. She is a wonderful babysitter, caring and attentive. She will be able to provide the girl with everything she needs," grumbled Reginald, who was not used to refusals and even more so to such emotional outbursts. His voice was calm, but there was a cold steel in it.
"She's used to me! She doesn't know you and will never accept you as a parent!" her mother continued to scream, her voice trembling with rage and helplessness. She knew that Reginald Hargreaves was a man who always got his way.
Reginald, irritated by this resistance, frowned and, switching to a more severe tone, asked: "What should I do to get you to give it back? Name your price or condition. I'm not used to wasting time on pointless negotiations. The girl will be better off with me than in this chaos."
His eyes sparkled with determination, and his voice sounded as if every word he said was the last argument in an argument. He didn't understand why they didn't see the obvious: he could give the girl a future they couldn't even dream of. At his academy, the greatest minds, the latest technologies and opportunities beyond the reach of most would be waiting for her. But the girl's parents were not going to back down, and this angered Reginald more and more.
